The short and somewhat flip answer I have for that is try to learn
everything. Government software implementations varies widely between
organizations. If you are looking for a government security job you
would be best off trying to learn a lot about different systems and
specializing in one. For what it is worth I see a lot of the new work
in windows drawing bigger microsoft implementations, so I would
suggest learning that. Not trying to start a flame war, not even
arguing that this is a good thing, but I think that is where the big
business is headed.

Really though after a while a lot of the ideas transfer, even if the
methods don't. Become really good at something and someone will want
to pay you for it.

Pretty much I would like to know what operating system I should focus on if
I wanted to pursue a government career in security or if I wanted to purse a
career in the private sector. Thanks.
