G'day Paul, We find that m0n0wall boxes work brilliantly without the need for annual licensing (well, it is OSS, so no licensing at all, however sending Manuel something thru PayPal is a nice idea). Also Untangle works quite well and their free version would easily do what you need. As for more routery devices with definite Firewall functionality, Mikrotik makes some nice products. But there's a number of OSS firewall options such as CensorNet, ClarkConnect (now ClearOS) and IPCop available, too. -- http://hiltont.blogspot.com/ Regards, Hilton Travis Phone: +61 (0)7 3105 9101 (Brisbane, Australia) Phone: +61 (0)419 792 394 Manager, Quark IT http://www.quarkit.com.au Quark Group http://www.quarkgroup.com.au War doesn't determine who is right. -----Original Message----- On Behalf Of Paul.Simons () thomsonreuters com Sent: Wednesday, 13 January 2010 9:24 PM Hello List It is about time for me to renew my subscription for my home firewall appliance. I am currently allowed to use 5 'nodes' accessing the internet at the same time and I have a URL filtering subscription along with the usual software/hardware support. With Father Christmas being particularly fond of devices that require an IP address (iPods - Xboxes - etc) I need to upgrade from 5 to 25 nodes. In total I am going to have to pay around 900 US dollars!!! What are my alternatives? I have looked at Sonicwall, Sofaware, etc. Any recommendations? other solutions to keep my home network and kids safe? Thanks in advance. Paul
