What type of connection supplies res halls (bandwidth etc.)? 10/100 ethernet jack to each pillow, gigabyte links on the backbone. 2. Is the residence connected in any way to the institute network, or is it on a separate feed? Do you outsource your residence connection? ResHalls are part of the campus network. 3. What technology is is place to stop (if any) peer-to-peer sharing etc? Packeteer Packet shaper with policies to severely limit peer-to-peer file sharing. www.packeteer.com 4. Do you get complaints from RIAA, MPAA, etc? Occasionally 5. How many users are connected in res halls? 1200+ 6. Are users authenticated? By what means? Students are not authenticated every time, but at our discretion they have to register their computer on the network prior to receiving full access. We can unregistered them anytime we need to and make them go through the process again. 7. Are user machines inspected before connection is allowed? An inspection is part of the registration process, We use Bradford Software's Campus Manger to do this. www.bradford-sw.com 8. Are res halls bound by Service Level Agreements / Policies? No official SLA but we strive to keep them up 100% of the time. 9. What is the guaranteed uptime of res halls (if a guarantee is made at all)? No guarantee made 10. Are res halls supported by the institue helpdesk, or does the res hall have its own helpdesk?. Supported by the institute helpdesk which has staff available during extended hours 11. What is the demarcation point for responsibility to the institute (switch port, wall jack)? Wall Jack, but will also help students do some basic trouble shooting of their ethernet patch cord, nic 12. What are the policy (if policy exists) actions for gross network abuse? 3. Policy Violations Alleged violations of this policy, or violation of other University policies in the course of using the Information Technology System, may result in an immediate loss of privileges and may also result in the referral of the matter to the appropriate judicial authority as specified in each University handbook. Any information you could provide would be GREATLY appreciated....
