1. What type of connection supplies res halls (bandwidth etc.)?

10/100 port per pillow. Buildings get 100 mbit. Complex gets 1.4 gbit
(14 x 100 mbit fiber feeds).

2. Is the residence connected in any way to the institute network, or is
it on a separate feed? Do you outsource your residence connection?

Insitutional network connection at core router. Not outsourced.

3. What technology is is place to stop (if any) peer-to-peer sharing
etc?

Checkpoint Floodgate-1 for bandwidth management.

4. Do you get complaints from RIAA, MPAA, etc?

Periodically (couple per month).

5. How many users are connected in res halls?

All 2100 possible ports wired, about 1900 up this fall.

6. Are users authenticated? By what means?

No.

7. Are user machines inspected before connection is allowed?

No. Should be.

8. Are res halls bound by Service Level Agreements / Policies?

Acceptable Use Policy

9. What is the guaranteed uptime of res halls (if a guarantee is made at
all)?

None. Actual uptime is probably 99.9%+

10. Are res halls supported by the institue helpdesk, or does the res
hall have its own helpdesk?.

Insitutional helpdesk. Next year, hopefully one in res halls.

11. What is the demarcation point for responsibility to the institute
(switch port, wall jack)?

Wall jack.

12. What are the policy (if policy exists) actions for gross network
abuse?

Acceptable use governs/restricts students from putting up servers which
prevents most of this.
