to look it up in a Latin dictionary ;)

But the word we are talking about is the English language word "virus" 
that means something quite different from the Latin "virus", so it is 
an appropriation as a new word.  Thus the Latin usage is of little to 
no direct relevance in determining the correct usage of this new 
English word...

(Looking up the Latin dictionary can help you in unravelling all this, 
but should show you that, in this case, the Latin pluralization (or non-
pluralization) is really, at best, only of secondary interest and 
value.)
