 My favorite:

More people are killed in the US by Heart Disease than anything else at all...

Ban all Big Macs and other food that is "not good for you"

Close runner up of mine:

More people are killed in the US by doctor's errors than firearms.

Ban all Doctors....er, Hmmmmm.... How many lives to Doctors save? Hundreds? Thousands? Ok, lets focus on this
then....

On the serious side....

How many lives are saved by owning a firearm in the US? I'm serious with this question, I don't have time to look it
up though. I know in "American Rifleman" magazine, there is a page dedicated to "Armed Citizen". On this page there
are newspaper clips of people fending off attackers by having a firearm in their possession. A great many of these
clips are from people that would surely have been killed by their attacker. Ok, the anti-gun person would say, dial
911 (or other suitable outside US emergency number). How can a 80 year old person dial 911 and still fend off their
attacker until the police show up and not be dead when they arrive.....
So I ask this question, how many lives have firearms saved.... Citizen's lives, not on duty police, etc....

I think you're completely wrong here and I think folks like Drsolly
prove it. There are several arguments for guns (rights, self-defense,
hunting, etc.) and only one against them (people can get killed) which

That's a pretty good one, you know.

No, its a pretty childish one, and not very useful. For instance, a
child is killed more often by falling into a 5 gallon bucket than a
firearm, per year, in the US. Ban 5 gallon buckets. More people are
killed by automobiles than any other cause, per year, in the US. Ban
cars.

If you're truly concerned with the life and death of folks, surely
firearms would be the least of your worries - these are just two
examples from the leading cause of death in the US. There are plenty
more where they came from, and all of them rank higher than firearms.
