That's true - though they'll actually know where the phone is, and only
to cell precision unless they target you specifically.

For the extremely paranoid, taking the battery out will also help if
you don't trust the firmware - how do you know the off button turns
off the RF engine and not just the LCD?

Because of how much it increases battery life. :-)

Or that the phone isn't recording everything you say and hear?

Firmware rootkits are so much fun :)

That's one reason I stick to older phones.
