Chemical reactions can be timed pretty well (well, at least some of them). Probably not a good idea to go into the technical details (i'm just a chemistry fan [been one for over 20 years] and I don't want any trouble). There's definitely no guarantee from his point of you... because he doesn't know if he can trust me the enemy's word, but the alternative is pretty bad... and people normally choose to live (or at least a chance to live instead of definite death) in these kind of situations... C*O or not. And if the op is executed by a professional he wouldn't want to be stuck with a dead body... It's just more ligistical headache to deal with. Also, if it's done correctly that C*O wouldn't know your identity, so it wouldn't matter if he's pissed or not.
