This problem started, in my memory, 20 years ago. Maybe other people can

The reason is that, although to you and I, computer security is at the top

of our minds - that's because we're in that field. To the ordinary guy,
his priorities are 1) do your job and 2) go home. Computer problems - he
calls you about.

Doc.,
That is a very good point. The problem is in the fact that the "IT" made them
that way to an extent. We saw them as "stupid" users (yes there are some for
sure) and treated as such. We wear t-shirts to prove it!

Today, a lot of these users will set you aside and begin to ask questions
about their home computer and how they can "do this and that" to fix it. The
"home" computers are helping to create an awareness of security needs at work
too. Most of the "how to" I send out is printed and taken home by them.

I guess I am just a strange little guy that believes the world can change.

It's not strange to believe that the world can change. But I believe that
the first thing you need to do to change the world, is assume that people
won't change their behaviour unless there's a *HUGE* incentive for them to
do so.
