Yes, it's a complicated topic with no easy and clear cut solution.
You are damned if you do and you are damned if you don't...
What needs to be considered is the long term effect on the country in
general...

Sometimes it's more of a trap... You have competitors who are using
illegals,
so they are able to lower the prices to gain an edge over you. You have
no choice... because you have to lower your prices... and the most
obvious solution... and sometimes the only one is to use illegals.
But it's still not right... this is why it's important to enforce laws.
Imagine... we didn't enforce other laws like we don't enforce the existing
immigration laws. Let's say we didn't enforce the law that punishes murder.
Now you might have competitors who just eliminate competition by shooting
them. You have no choice... you have to get guns and try to take
advantage of this business "strategy" as well if you don't want
to be outstaged by the competition. Yes, it's a fictional example....
but it's intentional to demonstrate that instead of throwing the hands
in the air and saying well... I can't do much about it... I have to do it
too this needs to be addressed head on... not by letting it continue
and encouraging the next waive that will be 10 or even more times greater
(and it will)

In a lot of cases, they really do not have much of a choice. If the
demand
for a given product is price-inelastic, they can afford to hire legals,
pay
the higher wage, and pass the cost along in the price of the product.

However, if the demand is price-elastic, they can't do that - if they try
to
raise the price, their sales drop off, often with disastrous results to
the
balance sheets. See the US steel and clothing/textile industries for
examples of what higher labor costs can do to your company.

And even if in the microeconomic area, they can afford to hire legals and
pass the cost along, the macroeconomic effects may be a problem. In
particular, the higher costs will have an inflationary effect....
