One other thing is that without verbose logging to the screen turned on in the 
conf file I get no logging at all. That rule is still a problem. Looking at 
the docs and at it back and forth I can't see a problem. Could you look at 
that again too please and see if you can spot anything?

For a "port" I used any so my line looks like this:

log udp 192.168.0.12/32 any -> 192.168.0.111/32 514 (logto:"ws1.log";)
