Now you're talking! That's an excellent paper, and that was my initial submission. If you look in the directory that one is contained in, you'll see one from '72, which is my current best find.
Those of you with access to IEEE or ACM accounts, or perhaps have access to a good university library where there has been a CS program for almost 40 years can probably beat me. Just go through the references cited.
I stayed up way to late last night reading papers from the 60's and 70's. Great stuff!
