Hmm... I got a cluster of 1100 Mac G5 systems across the hall.  Our
facilities people would certainly love it if they only took 100 watts
per computer.  Apple cites 400 watts per server.  And I think a Xeon
processor is 110 watts *all by itself*, not counting the optional stuff
like memory and disk.

I'm talking about a Celeron 2.4, 512mb, four hard drives. The figure comes 
from an actual measurement of the power consumed while the conputer is 
actively in use. I needed to know this, so that I could plan a data 
center, so I put a clamp wattmeter on a server.

Maybe macs use more, I don't know. You might put a clamp meter on one. And 
there's no point in using Xeons on a server that's mostly acting as a data 
store.
