Virtually every police officer around here is carrying a .40 cal.

For decades, it was some variant of .38. Most around here are carrying
9mm now... The caliber doesn't matter, really..

The number of incidents involving AK47s are so few as to be almost
non-existent. The few that do occur get a lot of airplay just because
it involved an evil "assault weapon".

I didn't say it was common. I said that the Iraqi armed with a shotgun up
against what the insurgents are carrying is just as outclassed as the cop
carrying a 9mm who *does* run into an assault weapon. In both cases, the
outclassed person's situation can be summed up as "Oh, shit...."

(If anything, the outclassed Iraqi is even *more* screwed, because the
cop has at least had time on the target range, and has at least a *chance*
of dropping the guy with the AK-47 before he gets perforated himself....)
