I missed the comment that the -wired- interface was slow, good catch!

Yes, a duplex mismatch would be the first thing to check, in this event.

So my question is, are all wireless routers slow?
I know that wireless is slower than wired, but why should having a
wireless router slow down the wired connection?

Since wired is slow as well, I would guess it's the number one problem you typically run into with wired performance issues - a duplex mismatch. Almost certainly on the WAN interface, between it and your cable/DSL modem or whatever the routers are plugged into. Can't say I'm really familiar with Linksys or Netgear stuff, but there should be some sort of status page that shows the speed and duplex of the interface, and hopefully errors on the interface. If it's on full duplex and you're seeing collisions, or if you see late collisions on a half duplex interface, you have a duplex mismatch. First upgrade the firmware on everything involved that you can. Then, assuming the device the Linksys/Netgear is plugged into is "dumb", i.e. no management capabilities internally and no ability to upgrade the firmware, I'd force the Linksys to whatever speed and duplex works with the other end. If the modem has a management interface, then I'd first suggest upgrading the firmware, and then seeing what speed/duplex it has configured. If you can get into a management interface on both sides, either set both to the same speed and duplex, or set them both to auto. Never set one side and leave the other on auto, as that's the easiest way to cause a mismatch. If you can't manage the other end, that sometimes leaves you in a situation where you have to muck with settings on only one side.
